Fast Legato Rock Technique #5 (Guitar Lesson RO-015) How to play

  • 0:14 - 0:15
    Hello, viewers
  • 0:15 - 0:19
So here we are for, uhh, position 2
of the 3 note per string scale
  • 0:19 - 0:22
So, uhm, what we're going to be
    doing this time, now
  • 0:22 - 0:26
The first scale that we learned started
on the note G, and went up like this:
  • 0:26 - 0:32
  • 0:32 - 0:35
Now this next one is going
to start on the note A,
  • 0:35 - 0:39
now some people call it the Dorian
position, but I don't really think
  • 0:39 - 0:43
-okay it kind of is, but really it is just
the second position of the G major scale
  • 0:43 - 0:46
using a 3 note per string technique.
  • 0:46 - 0:49
Now, I'll play it for you quickly here and
    then we'll go into a close-up and
  • 0:49 - 0:51
you can see exactly how it's done.
  • 0:51 - 0:54
So here it is in the big, wide view:
  • 0:54 - 1:05
  • 1:05 - 1:06
    The root note
  • 1:06 - 1:07
  • 1:07 - 1:07
    is now there.
  • 1:07 - 1:10
Okay, now let's go to a close-up mate?
  • 1:11 - 1:17
Okay, so here we go for position 2,
G major scale, 3 notes per string,
  • 1:17 - 1:21
and make sure that you realize that the
highest, the last root note here is this
  • 1:21 - 1:22
    this G here.
  • 1:22 - 1:24
But we're gonna start out on the A now.
  • 1:24 - 1:27
So here we go, now we're going to use your
    first finger
  • 1:27 - 1:28
    second finger
  • 1:28 - 1:30
    third finger
  • 1:30 - 1:34
because that way we're keeping our hand in
the right position the whole way through.
  • 1:34 - 1:34
    So we got this
  • 1:34 - 1:44
  • 1:44 - 1:46
    now, big position change now
  • 1:46 - 2:07
  • 2:07 - 2:11
Little bit faster and smoother now, just
be really aware of this position change
  • 2:11 - 2:12
here where it goes from here
  • 2:12 - 2:15
  • 2:15 - 2:16
    It's quite a big one.
  • 2:16 - 2:21
  • 2:21 - 2:23
    Might be worth practicing that
    little bit just like that
  • 2:23 - 2:27
  • 2:27 - 2:30
When you get to your cycling.
    Anyway, here we go again
  • 2:30 - 2:31
    smoother and...
  • 2:31 - 2:54
  • 2:54 - 2:59
So, that was position 2 of the G major
scale using 3 notes per string.
  • 2:59 - 3:03
I have got to say it again, do it slowly.
  • 3:03 - 3:06
Umm, so, make sure you do it really...
yeah practice it real slow, get it right
  • 3:06 - 3:10
and then have a go at applying those
cycling tricks that we just used
  • 3:10 - 3:13
in the last lesson to that scale.
  • 3:13 - 3:16
Now, that's going to be a little bit
    tricky particularly on that change
  • 3:16 - 3:20
between the 3rd string and the 2nd string
where there's a big position jump.
  • 3:20 - 3:24
It's dead normal for that to be a bit of
a struggle, but it's not that hard.
  • 3:24 - 3:27
It just takes a little extra bit of
practice, so have a groove on that, and
  • 3:27 - 3:30
    in the next lesson
I'll show you how to join
  • 3:30 - 3:31
    your 1st position
    to your 2nd position
  • 3:31 - 3:32
    See you's later!
