One minute Changes (Guitar Lesson IM-152) How to play IF Stage 5
-
0:11 - 0:15Hi! How ya doin'?
Justin here! Welcome to IM-152 -
0:15 - 0:18Which is the One Minute Changes
for Foundation Five. -
0:18 - 0:22In which we're gonna be jumping our
triad shapes all up and down the guitar neck. -
0:22 - 0:24Lots of fun here.
-
0:24 - 0:27So let's start off by looking
at the G Major triad, -
0:27 - 0:28just because we've looked
at that one a lot already, -
0:28 - 0:30and it's the one
you started off with. -
0:30 - 0:33What we're gonna be doing is playing
each on of the G Majors, -
0:33 - 0:36all of the way up the neck,
and all of the way back again. -
0:36 - 0:38So we'll be using G
down at the 3rd fret. -
0:38 - 0:40. . .
-
0:40 - 0:44Then the one up around the 8th fret,
the one up at the 12th fret, -
0:44 - 0:45. . .
-
0:45 - 0:46and back down again.
-
0:46 - 0:48. . .
-
0:48 - 0:49And that would be 1 cycle.
-
0:49 - 0:50So, 1
-
0:50 - 0:53. . .
-
0:53 - 0:542
-
0:54 - 0:57. . .
-
0:57 - 0:573
-
0:57 - 0:59. . .
-
0:59 - 1:034, 5 etc.
-
1:03 - 1:07Now, that was G,
I also think that you should have a go at doing C. -
1:07 - 1:11But don't start with the C right up at the 8th fret,
start down toward the nut, -
1:11 - 1:16as far as you can, so the
C chord will be the one down here, -
1:16 - 1:20with the 3rd finger on the
C note on the 3rd string. -
1:20 - 1:21So you play C
-
1:21 - 1:25. . .
-
1:25 - 1:262
-
1:26 - 1:28. . .
-
1:28 - 1:303, 4
-
1:30 - 1:33. . .
-
1:33 - 1:34etc, just going through.
-
1:34 - 1:37Now once you've done those two Majors,
I'd also recommend -
1:37 - 1:39that you have a go at doing the minors.
-
1:39 - 1:42And the two I've selected
would be Dm and Fm. -
1:42 - 1:45Of course going through as
fast as you can. -
1:45 - 1:47When you're working on
these kind of triad shapes, -
1:47 - 1:49jumping to them really quick.
-
1:49 - 1:51It really makes you learn
the patterns really, really well. -
1:51 - 1:53And a little trick that
I'm gonna tell you about, -
1:53 - 1:58make sure that you look at the Root note of
the chord that you're going to. -
1:58 - 2:01So when I'm playing say,
G, down the bottom there, -
2:01 - 2:03I know I'm moving to this
one at the 8th fret. -
2:03 - 2:08So I would use my eyes and look at that Root note on the 8th fret of the 2nd string,
-
2:08 - 2:10and then move the chord shape to it.
-
2:10 - 2:14If you try and kind of follow your hand, and you you kind of watching your hand as it goes,
-
2:14 - 2:18moves up the neck, it's very hard to make
that kind of fast jump. -
2:18 - 2:26Now, for the last one, for #5, I've recommended that you do the C Major, on strings 2,3 & 4.
-
2:26 - 2:27Your chords here.
-
2:27 - 2:31. . .
-
2:31 - 2:35If you don't feel confident
doing your chord changes on strings 2,3 & 4, -
2:35 - 2:38Just substitute another one of either
the Major or the minor. -
2:38 - 2:41Whatever you find the hardest
on the thinnest three strings. -
2:41 - 2:43Work on that for a little bit, and
then when you feel cool, -
2:43 - 2:48move over and start maybe looking at all five being on strings group 2,3 & 4,
-
2:48 - 2:53because that is just as useful group of strings
as the thinnest three strings. -
2:53 - 2:56So that's gonna be quite a
lot of practice for you. -
2:56 - 2:58Take it slowly, make sure
that you get it right, -
2:58 - 3:01and I'm sure you'll get those triads
under your fingers in no time. -
3:01 - 3:05Take care of yourselves. See you for
another lesson real soon. Bye bye.
