As you walk down the street, consider the fact that everyone has a story. We tend to be so fixated on our own experiences that we miss out on opportunities to learn about others and give back to our communities. This is about the outreach initiated by a single story.

Shelley Chinn is a teacher in the Cranbrook US Mathematics Department. She has taught at Cranbrook for the past 11 years and is a member on the steering committee for Cranbrook Envisions a Cure. Shelley is the advisor to the Cranbrook Envisions a Cure club. The club helps support families in the Cranbrook community faced with cancer and through school year fundraising, the club makes a generous donation to the featured charity for the Cranbrook Envisions a Cure event each fall. Shelley is passionate about her roles as advisor and steering committee member because she is a 17-year cancer survivor.
