(Playing Aerosmith "Walk this way")

Hi how ya doin'? Justin here

In this lesson today we are going to be
checking out

"Walk This Way" by Aerosmith

We are going to be looking at
the main riff, as well as

the riff in the verse. Because a lot of
people seem to struggle with that one.

Um, I've done quite a lot of research
making sure that I get it exactly right

Um so let's get to it and check it out!

Okay we're starting here with an open
"A" string (Play notes)

First finger goes down in the first fret
of the third string

Slides it up to the second fret of the
third string

and then we play the second fret

of the fourth string

and then the low E second time through

Second time
(Plays guitar)

we got a little here second finger
third fret of the thicker string

flick off to first finger second fret
fourth string

(Plays guitar)

finishing off there that last time
with a little "A" chord

one time, nice and slow
all the way through. Here we go.

3, 4

Okay the picking for the riff

Down, Up, Down, Up

Down, Up, Down Up, Down

Okay here we go looking at the verse
riff for "Walk This Way."

It's eh, based around kind of a
"C" power chord

We got out first finger sitting here
at the 8th fret of the thicker string

and the third finger
on the tenth fret of the fifth string

and they stay put for

pretty much the whole thing

so it turns out to be a little bit of
a little finger workout

Uh, let me just play the riff for you

first of all so you could see

what's going on

Sounds like this

3, 4

(Plays guitar)

Truly quite specific,
it's kind of on the record

you gotta really listen to it and get
the accent right

so what notes are loud and
what notes are quiet.

I'm gonna show you what the notes are
but you're gonna have to listen

to get that other info.

So, what we got here is

So first of all this is the root note of
the eight fret of the thicker string

Three picks, so, Down Up Down Up

and then that last note there is
the note "G", which is the

third finger on the tenth fret

(Plays guitar)

Down, Up, Down, Up

Up, Down, Flick

So, Down, Up, Down, Up
Up, Down, Flick

(Plays guitar)

1 e & a 2 e & a
1 e & a 2 e & a

I'm letting them all ring together
there of course

But you want the
(plays guitar)

Get that palm mute and it will
really help with your accenting.

So, the first part
(plays guitar)

The second part
(plays guitar) we play, first of all,

the eighth down on the thicker string

(Plays guitar)

So we got here eight

then little finger's going on the tenth
fret of the fourth string

(Plays guitar)

And then we're plucking the fifth string
Down, Up, Down

(Plays guitar)

Then little finger is jumping
right up to the thirteenth fret

(Plays guitar)

and I can't tell if it's a flick off
or not. I think it's just play,

but thirteen, ten, twelve, flick off.
Definitely that last one's

a flick off there

so, Down Up Down
Down Up Down Flick Off

Okay joining the two
together

(Plays guitar)

up to speed with a little bit of palm
muting

Just really quickly
the one little bit that

I haven't shown you that'll
kinda get you pretty much

through the whole tune if I do
is the chorus

which is a "C" power chord

and this little riff here
which is nothing, nothing

seven, eight, ten
and then nothing

on the thinner string

then to a "F" power chord

(Plays guitar)

and then this is on the thinner 3 strings
ten, ten, eleven

(Plays guitar)

um, and with that you've probably
got most of the rhythm parts anyway

Um there's so great solos
to transcribe in as well

a lot to be learned

it's a difficult tune to play,
really well, this one

kind of an easy one to play badly
if you like

but particularly that verse riff
it takes a little bit of practice

to get it kinda right in the pocket.
Don't really that I've got it

in the pocket yet, but i'm working on it.
