Stage 8 Practice Schedule (Guitar Lesson BC-189) Guitar for beginners Stage 8

  • 0:04 - 0:07
You've made it ! You are at end of stage 8.
  • 0:07 - 0:09
There's only one more stage to go.
  • 0:09 - 0:12
Bad news is there's a lot of stuff to do in this stage
  • 0:12 - 0:16
so you now up to 50 minute a day practice routine.
  • 0:16 - 0:18
Now, for many of you, that's going to be too much
  • 0:18 - 0:20
so do feel free to chop it in the half
  • 0:20 - 0:23
so you got two 25min practice routine
  • 0:23 - 0:25
in alternating days that you are doing what.
  • 0:25 - 0:26
    It doesn't really matter,
  • 0:26 - 0:28
there's not a specific exercise that you
  • 0:28 - 0:29
    should do before other ones.
  • 0:29 - 0:31
So its really up to you
  • 0:31 - 0:33
to choose which ones you fancy doing when.
  • 0:33 - 0:36
So what have we got on the routine for this stage?
  • 0:36 - 0:37
We have first of all :
  • 0:37 - 0:40
memorizing notes on the thickest two strings
  • 0:40 - 0:41
    5 mins.
  • 0:41 - 0:42
    That's really important.
  • 0:42 - 0:43
So now you are looking at the notes
  • 0:43 - 0:45
on the 6th string and the 5th string.
  • 0:45 - 0:46
All the way from the nut
  • 0:46 - 0:48
all the way up to the 12th fret.
  • 0:48 - 0:51
So a really good little game you can play
  • 0:51 - 0:53
is just literally put a finger on a note
  • 0:53 - 0:55
on one of the.. whatever fret you like
  • 0:55 - 0:57
on one of the two thicker strings, and go
  • 0:57 - 0:58
    Oh ! What's that one ? Oh, it's a G
  • 0:58 - 1:00
    And up here ? oh that's a ..
  • 1:00 - 1:02
    count them up and go..
  • 1:02 - 1:03
oh! that one is an F
  • 1:03 - 1:06
oh that one.. oh.. that's a E Flat whatever
  • 1:06 - 1:08
or get your friend, your jam buddy or whatever
  • 1:08 - 1:10
to sit there and point to different notes
  • 1:10 - 1:11
    and you name them.
  • 1:11 - 1:12
Really good way of doing it
  • 1:12 - 1:13
    5 minutes a day.
  • 1:13 - 1:14
    We've got next
  • 1:14 - 1:16
we've got the minor pentatonic scale
  • 1:16 - 1:18
and the picking exercise that I showed you
  • 1:18 - 1:20
so working on the minor pentatonic scale
  • 1:20 - 1:22
and really working up to doing alternate picking
  • 1:22 - 1:24
    doing all downs, all ups
  • 1:24 - 1:25
down and up on each note
  • 1:25 - 1:27
and then alternate picking 5 mins a day.
  • 1:27 - 1:29
    We have chord practice
  • 1:29 - 1:30
    still if you need it
  • 1:30 - 1:32
you might not need this one
  • 1:32 - 1:34
so, if all your chords are sounding really sweet now
  • 1:34 - 1:36
and every note is sounding good, no buzzy stuff
  • 1:36 - 1:39
    you know exactly what notes
you should be playing for what chord
  • 1:39 - 1:41
    which is possible
  • 1:41 - 1:44
but I suspect most of you would still be
  • 1:44 - 1:45
needing to work on that so
  • 1:45 - 1:46
    make sure that's in there
  • 1:46 - 1:48
strum, pick out, strum, as usual.
  • 1:48 - 1:50
You can decide what chords you need to work on the most.
  • 1:50 - 1:53
    Then we have power chords
  • 1:53 - 1:57
so this time we are working on the C5 power chord,
  • 1:57 - 2:00
the power chord with the 5th string root
  • 2:00 - 2:01
so the most important thing again,
  • 2:01 - 2:03
I know we've just talked about it,
  • 2:03 - 2:05
but make sure the 6th string is muted,
  • 2:05 - 2:07
dead! kill dead with the first finger. Right?
  • 2:07 - 2:09
    Really really important.
  • 2:09 - 2:11
Practice making sure you got the stretch.
  • 2:11 - 2:12
Practice moving it up and down.
  • 2:12 - 2:14
Maybe play some riffs and stuff.
  • 2:14 - 2:15
    Lots of fun
  • 2:15 - 2:16
    get cracking with that one.
  • 2:16 - 2:18
We have then, one minute changes
  • 2:18 - 2:20
    now your one minute changes
  • 2:20 - 2:22
bit of a free for all this time.
  • 2:22 - 2:23
You can work on doing your
  • 2:23 - 2:26
    C to your G chord
  • 2:26 - 2:29
using one of the new G chords.
  • 2:29 - 2:31
    We can work on doing
  • 2:31 - 2:34
the big G to the little D
  • 2:34 - 2:36
I'm just checking that that is what
  • 2:36 - 2:39
we did in stage 8, it was the G chord
  • 2:39 - 2:41
it was the G chord sorry!
  • 2:41 - 2:42
    Just confusing myself.
  • 2:42 - 2:43
There's a lot of lessons going on.
  • 2:43 - 2:45
I wanna make sure I'm giving you the right stuff.
  • 2:45 - 2:48
and then you would have three blank lessons
  • 2:48 - 2:51
well..blank one minute changes where you can put in
  • 2:51 - 2:53
whatever chord changes you think necessary.
  • 2:53 - 2:54
Cause ???? my laptop down here
  • 2:54 - 2:56
wrote with a lot of lesson plans
  • 2:56 - 2:57
And this is just like : oh la la, My God,
  • 2:57 - 2:59
I'm telling them a wrong thing, I was sure last time
  • 2:59 - 3:01
but it's not. That's everything was good so far.
  • 3:01 - 3:04
Ok. then, you should be having your
  • 3:04 - 3:05
    rhythm guitar practice
  • 3:05 - 3:06
which is all of the patterns
  • 3:06 - 3:08
you've done so far including pattern #16
  • 3:08 - 3:10
which is that one where you're
  • 3:10 - 3:12
    hitting the base note independently.
  • 3:12 - 3:14
Then you have 12bars blues rhythm
  • 3:14 - 3:16
working on your chanka chanka 12 bar blues
  • 3:16 - 3:19
getting that chin - kichin- kichin - kichin going on
  • 3:19 - 3:22
aiming to not have any pauses between the chords
  • 3:22 - 3:24
that's the big thing you're working on with there.
  • 3:24 - 3:26
And just trying to get it, so, kind of groovy
  • 3:26 - 3:29
    and swings along nicely,
that will be a really good plan.
  • 3:29 - 3:31
We then have basic fingerstyle practice
  • 3:31 - 3:34
I told you, there's lot going on in this level
  • 3:34 - 3:35
    so really working on through
  • 3:35 - 3:38
getting the fingers in, you know, working a little bit
  • 3:38 - 3:40
trying to make sure they are accurate
  • 3:40 - 3:42
and they pick the right string at the right time.
  • 3:42 - 3:43
It's a kind of preparing you up
  • 3:43 - 3:45
for the next lesson really, that one.
  • 3:45 - 3:47
Then we have songs and chord progressions.
  • 3:47 - 3:49
So, whatever songs you are working up to now,
  • 3:49 - 3:51
and just fiddling about with them,
  • 3:51 - 3:52
    working on them,
  • 3:52 - 3:53
trying to make them sound cool,
  • 3:53 - 3:55
good idea to keep on working on these songs.
  • 3:55 - 3:57
At the end of this beginners course,
  • 3:57 - 3:58
    like next lesson again,
  • 3:58 - 3:59
we'll talk a little bit more
  • 3:59 - 4:01
    about the emphasis of songs
  • 4:01 - 4:02
but for now, just still 5min a day
  • 4:02 - 4:03
    working on your songs.
  • 4:03 - 4:05
And lastly, you've got your optional
  • 4:05 - 4:07
    5 mins JUSTIN training exercises
  • 4:07 - 4:09
    which is about ear development
  • 4:09 - 4:10
    working on your ear
  • 4:10 - 4:12
trying to recognize your chord sounds
  • 4:12 - 4:14
and some of your rhythms as well now
  • 4:14 - 4:16
so that stuff is getting a bit more advanced
  • 4:16 - 4:18
but that's explained in a separate lesson for that.
  • 4:18 - 4:20
So I hope you are having fun with all of this
  • 4:20 - 4:22
that's a lot of work you got on this time for this stage
  • 4:22 - 4:24
so expect to be on this stage
  • 4:24 - 4:25
    for a little while, alright?
  • 4:25 - 4:26
    Don't be rushing it.
  • 4:26 - 4:28
Much better to be able to do
  • 4:28 - 4:29
    a few things really well
  • 4:29 - 4:31
than to be able to do a lot of things badly.
  • 4:31 - 4:33
So just be cool, practice hard
  • 4:33 - 4:34
    keep working at it
  • 4:34 - 4:35
    working regular practice
  • 4:35 - 4:36
    all that stuff
  • 4:36 - 4:38
and I'll see you when you're ready
  • 4:38 - 4:40
to meet me in stage nine !
  • 4:40 - 4:41
    the final chapter !
