0:06 - 0:08Hi guys! Let's talk about herbal teas.
-
0:08 - 0:11This is a lovely, lovely world!
-
0:11 - 0:13Is it a great way to hydrate?
-
0:13 - 0:13Yes!
-
0:13 - 0:16Is it a lovely way to start the day?
-
0:16 - 0:17Yes!
-
0:17 - 0:19Does it give you a cozy, warm feeling?
-
0:19 - 0:20Yes!
-
0:20 - 0:23And can the fruit you heat
extracts beautiful flavors -
0:23 - 0:25that you wouldn't have in a cold drink?
-
0:25 - 0:26Yes!
-
0:26 - 0:28I'm going to give you a combo today,
which I think is brilliant. -
0:28 - 0:31If you look at this, this is turmeric.
-
0:31 - 0:33It's world worth having a look for this.
-
0:33 - 0:36Unbelievable, brilliant to use
in your cooking, of course. -
0:36 - 0:39We normally get it like this,
as a dry product. -
0:39 - 0:43Either way, this is absolutely packed
to the rafters with iron, -
0:43 - 0:44which is no bad thing
-
0:44 - 0:48because we want to have
lovely, healthy blood, cells -- -
0:48 - 0:50and it's really, really good
for our general health. -
0:50 - 0:53Now, we can absorb more iron
in the presence of -- -
0:53 - 0:54Citrus!
-
0:54 - 0:57So, whether is orange or lemon,
-
0:57 - 0:59and there's juice
and the lovely zest there, -
0:59 - 1:02this is going to make
a delicious, delicious drink! -
1:02 - 1:04Look at the color! Oh my God!
-
1:04 - 1:06Watch your hand because it will stain.
-
1:06 - 1:09Get this into a jar.
-
1:09 - 1:11Now, what I love to do is
-
1:11 - 1:14I make little teas
in an airtight jar, right? -
1:14 - 1:16I use that as my tea pot.
-
1:16 - 1:18Obviously, make sure
it's a nice Kilner jar, -
1:18 - 1:19something that is heatproof.
-
1:19 - 1:20And then, whatever is left over,
-
1:20 - 1:23goes into the fridge
and then you chill it, -
1:23 - 1:28and you get a totally different
sort of flavor spectrum when you keep it. -
1:28 - 1:31I love doing it with things like
lemon, orange -- -
1:31 - 1:33If you got a speed peeler,
-
1:34 - 1:38those essential oils come out of zest...
just a couple of bits of zest, -
1:38 - 1:43literally 3 bits like that
are going to transform your tea. -
1:43 - 1:46So, there's a little slice
and a few bits of that. -
1:46 - 1:51You can absolutely sweeten this
with a little bit honey, if you want to. -
1:51 - 1:57A little teaspoon of honey in there
for a drink for 2-3 people. -
1:57 - 1:59It's delicious and that balance
-
1:59 - 2:02that sort of the bitter,
the fragrant, the juicy -- -
2:02 - 2:04and the honey is lovely.
-
2:04 - 2:06Some boiling water --
-
2:06 - 2:09Just a little bit of thyme goes in
-
2:09 - 2:11and let's let it steep
for a couple of minutes. -
2:11 - 2:15Let's just talk about what we can say
about these herbal teas for a fact. -
2:15 - 2:18We've got vitamin C in the orange.
-
2:18 - 2:20The vitamin C in the orange
is going to let you -
2:20 - 2:23absorb more iron from the turmeric
-- double pleasure -- -
2:24 - 2:26But in the thyme, you've got calcium,
can you believe it? -
2:26 - 2:30We always associate sort of
calcium-rich-food with dairy, -
2:30 - 2:32but actually, it's in thyme as well.
-
2:32 - 2:34So you can see, they're not
empty calories, right? -
2:34 - 2:37This is not like naked,
like in a lot of soda. -
2:37 - 2:40This is beautiful stuff, which is amazing!
-
2:40 - 2:42Basically, the story is
-
2:42 - 2:46that whether is kind of ancient Greeks,
Romans, Chinese medicine, yadayadaya -- -
2:46 - 2:50there's so much association
for a beautiful herbal tea -
2:50 - 2:52and good health.
-
2:52 - 2:55I can't actually legitimately say
a lot of this stuff -
2:55 - 2:56because the truth is,
-
2:56 - 3:00science, medicine,
just doesn't know enough -
3:00 - 3:02about what we know, yet.
-
3:02 - 3:03The question is,
-
3:03 - 3:07are you prepared to sit around and wait
for science to tell you that this is good? -
3:07 - 3:08Naaah!
-
3:08 - 3:09Get in there!

3:09 - 3:10Boil up a kettle,
-
3:10 - 3:14have some fun with spices,
things like fennel seeds, cinnamon -- -

have got lovely micronutrients for sure! -
3:18 - 3:20Citrus... for sure!
-
3:20 - 3:21Herbs... for sure!
-
3:21 - 3:23So, let's have a little pour out --
