背向浪頂迴旋、背向空中轉體、從浪管鑽出。這是毛利族人的衝浪選手Richard Christie。24歲的Christie,出生於南島Dunedin市的。Christie表示,海浪,就是他的歸屬。從小就愛好衝浪的Christie提到,海洋對他來說,有著一種獨特的吸引力。
由於熱愛海浪,12歲時就立下志願要當職業衝浪選手。在16歲時,就已經成功奪得全國冠軍。是紐西蘭史以來最年輕的全國衝浪公開賽冠軍得主。於是,開始有廣告贊助商就自動找上Christie。
2009年,Christie開始參加世界衝浪巡迴賽,Christie更一度在全球排名中排行第43。不過,由於世界衝浪巡迴賽更改比賽規則,只有全球前32強的選手才有資格參加世界衝浪巡迴賽,Christie不單只失去了與世界各國高手較量的機會,廣告贊助收入更大幅減少。不過,在家的人鼓勵下,Christie並未放棄自己理想。
雖然暫時未能參加世界衝浪巡迴賽,Christie依然每天練習八小時。由於毛利族人一般體型壯碩,一旦遇到浪管不夠大的比賽環境,往往比較吃虧。所以Christie更開始嚴格控制飲食。
由於Christie全力投入,紐西蘭民間有人自發捐款資助,希望Christie繼續參加其他比賽,爭取成為全球32強,並且重返加世界衝浪巡迴賽。
