Each year, the University of Rochester recognizes a select group of employees who go above and beyond the normal duties of their job. There are three categories of awards given out: the Staff Community Service Award, given to a staff member that is actively involved in service to the Greater Rochester community in a capacity outside of their usual assignment; the Meliora Award, given to staff members who exemplify the University's motto of meliora, which means "ever better"; the Witmer Award for Distinguished Service, given to staff members whose careers have been characterized by outstanding and sustained contributions to the University.
