  • 0:05 - 0:10
    Interview with Manuela Ronco
  • 0:10 - 0:18
What is the World Esperanto Youth Organization (TEJO) and its main focus?
  • 0:18 - 0:27
TEJO focuses primarily on informing in youth contexts
  • 0:27 - 0:35
about Esperanto as a possible solution to the language problem in international relations and
  • 0:35 - 0:44
organizes congresses, conferences, seminars and other meetings
  • 0:44 - 0:52
and we also provide many services for our members and country sections
  • 0:52 - 1:01
for example, publications or different brochures and press releases
  • 1:01 - 1:11
which create a network for exchanging information and cooperation and
  • 1:11 - 1:23
generally TEJO works to help their members actively participate in the Esperanto movement.
  • 1:23 - 1:29
What is the typical everyday life of the TEJO volunteer?
  • 1:29 - 1:32
    What do you do here?
  • 1:32 - 1:36
    I have many tasks.
  • 1:36 - 1:53
My everyday work consists of dealing with TEJO's email and postal mail and different administative tasks
  • 1:53 - 2:09
and I take care of contacts with members, country sections and also with other European and non-European organizations.
  • 2:09 - 2:18
Other tasks could be to cooperate with the board to make grant requests,
  • 2:18 - 2:25
update the website and represent TEJO at meetings,
  • 2:25 - 2:35
so I generally actively support the board and commissioners of TEJO.
  • 2:35 - 2:42
So actually, you spoke about the members, so why is it good to be a member of TEJO?
  • 2:42 - 2:54
Membership in TEJO is good, because first you receive services from TEJO and also advantages
  • 2:54 - 3:06
for example, you receive our magazines. You can also have a blog on TEJO's website and
  • 3:06 - 3:12
get a discount on the International Youth Congress of Esperanto.
  • 3:12 - 3:17
You also have a chance to participate in seminars.
  • 3:17 - 3:24
Through your membership, you help the youth Esperanto movement and if you want
  • 3:24 - 3:36
you can get involved in interesting and international projects, so that can also be a good experience for you.
  • 3:36 - 3:40
So, you spoke about magazines. Which magazines?
  • 3:40 - 3:53
The magazines are Kontakto and TEJO-Tutmonde, which will merge at the beginning of next year (2011).
  • 3:53 - 3:58
What is the difference between them?
  • 3:58 - 4:06
Kontakto is a magazine in Esperanto, but not about Esperanto.
  • 4:06 - 4:13
TEJO-Tutmonde is about the Esperanto movement.
  • 4:13 - 4:19
What is the International Youth Congress of Esperanto and where will it take place next year?
  • 4:19 - 4:26
The Internatlonal Youth Congress of Esperanto is the main gathering of TEJO
  • 4:26 - 4:32
and possibly the most important event for Esperanto youth.
  • 4:32 - 4:43
It happens every year in another country. This year in Cuba, next year in Kiev, Ukraine.
  • 4:43 - 4:51
It is organized by TEJO and its country section and by local activists.
  • 4:51 - 4:57
What advice would you give someone, who is attending IJK for the first time?
  • 4:57 - 5:03
I can't answer that, because I've never been to IJK,
  • 5:03 - 5:13
but generally I would recommend to someone who attends a youth meeting for the first time,
  • 5:13 - 5:23
profit to practice the language as much as possible and to meet as many people as possible
  • 5:23 - 5:34
and not only those who are most similar to you, but also those who are most different
  • 5:34 - 5:46
and to beginners, I would say, that they shouldn't be afraid of not understanding
  • 5:46 - 5:53
because after a bit of time, that's no longer a problem.
  • 5:53 - 5:57
Thank you for the very interesting information!
  • 5:57 - 5:59
    You're welcome.
